The vision of Headland Middle School is for each child to experience "success." We, at HMS, strive to provide a safe, child-centered learning environment where individual and developmental needs are met.

Dress Code & Cell Phone Policy Slide Show

CLICK HERE to view or print a copy of the student contract for our dress code and cell phone policy. Students viewed and discussed the policies one more time during homeroom on Aug. 15th, 2022. Students then signed the contracts stating that they were aware of both policies and that they understood them.
Please contact the school office if you have any questions about either of these policies. They are also outlined in the student handbook that went home on the first day of school this year.

HMS Library OPAC
CLICK HERE to access HMS Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
The OPAC can be used to search for books in our school library. Students can login to their accounts and see what books are checked out and when they are due back. Students can also reserve books they would like to read.
Due to Covid guidelines, HMS is not currently checking out library books. However, the OPAC can be used to read digital, non-fiction books from any device with internet access. To access the digital books, open the OPAC, search in the search box on the top left-hand side of the website for "ebooks" and 104 digital books will show up in your search results. To read one of them, click on the link that says "available via ABDO digital" under the book of your choice and the ebook should open for you to read it.

Schoology
CLICK HERE to login to Schoology. Steps to login in: 1) click "login" in the top right side of the screen. 2) In the login box, click on "SSO" and then type "Headland Middle School" and choose it from the drop down box that will appear. 3) Last click "login" again and it will prompt you to choose your school gmail account and you will follow the directions to login using your school gmail account and password. This works on computers and laptops.
For Ipads, follow these directions:
1. open up your browser (don't use the app) and type in henrycountyboe.schoology.com
2. login with your gmail address and password.

The HMS Book Fair begins on Monday, Feb. 26th and runs through noon on Friday, March 1st. Students will shop on the following days according to their grade level:
Monday, Feb. 26th- 6th grade
Tuesday, Feb. 27th- 7th grade
Wednesday, Feb. 28th- 8th grade
Thursday, Feb. 29th- 9th grade and any other students with money and library pass from a teacher
Friday, March 1st until noon- any student with money and a library pass from a teacher
Family shopping hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 27th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Checks must have driver's license number, birthdate, phone number and must be made out for the correct amount. Change can't be given from a check.
If you don't want to send cash or checks with your students check out Scholastic's E-Wallet for students. It works like a gift card. You load up funds on their account and they spend it like a gift card. Any funds not spent by Friday can be used at our online fair or roll over to next year on their account. Click on the link for our Online Book Fair and look for the section about E-Wallets to set up one for your student!

Headland Middle School and the 9th Grade Academy are so blessed to have the best counselors around. We are happy to celebrate Mrs. Frank and Mrs. Carter this week during National School Counselor Week. Taylor Kilgore, a Marine Educator, from Dauphin Island Sea Lab came to Headland Middle School to do a demonstration for 7th and 9th grade science classes. Our students greatly enjoyed her visit.

Students from our 9th grade Career Tech class toured business in Headland to help them learn about what careers they might be interested in pursuing after high school.
Twenty-three students participated in touring Alabama Power. Students received an overview and introduction from the Headland Customer Service and Appliance Sales Team, the Headland Power Delivery Team, the Warehouse and Linework/Tools Team. They were able to see how a business operates up close and ask questions regarding their career interest.
Twenty-three students participated in touring Peoples South Bank. Students toured the bank and learned about some of the different jobs that are available in the banking world and about the different services available at the bank for teens like opening accounts. They were able to see how a business operates up close and ask questions regarding their career interest.
Twenty-one students participated in touring Wiregrass Research and Extension Center. Students toured the center and learned more about it and the different careers that are touched by it. They were able to see how a business operates up close and ask questions regarding their career interest.
Sixty-seven ninth grade students at Headland Middle School Ninth Grade Academy volunteered their service to assist the Judson Overflowing Ministries thrift store and warehouse. They assisted with sorting and organizing clothing and household items for the thrift store and helped get the Christmas items out of their storage area for display and sale. This experience provided students with an opportunity to serve our surrounding community, earn community service hours, and shadow store employees to learn what it is like to work on the job.
