Middle School Band
Welcome to one of the most exciting, rewarding, and educational experiences that our school has to offer: the Headland Middle School Band!
Band is the musical performance group at Headland and all who are involved can benefit from it. Music is the means by which we train the emotions. Music along with academics makes a well-rounded individual. We believe that music and academics are an important part of every student's education. Band is open to all students at Headland Middle School without discrimination because of sex, race, or intellectual ability.
The goal of the Headland band program is to provide our students with a lifelong understanding and appreciation for quality music and music making. Recent statistics prove that young people who participate in music are among the academically strongest in their schools. They also have higher SAT score averages than their fellow classmates. Their adult lives are filled with successes which are a direct result of their band experiences: self-discipline, group cooperation, high self-esteem, understanding teamwork, developing a sense of persistence, high levels of thinking, creativity, and performance confidence. The Headland band program provides this foundation for every band student.

HMS Special Interest
Gifted Education clubs are designed to extend student interests beyond general exploratory experiences. Students develop a broad range of advanced-level skills in preparation for in-depth study and creation of a product on a chosen interest.
G/T Resource Teachers provide advanced-level instruction and schedule these opportunities for interested students. Skill development might include written, oral, and visual communication skills, critical and creative thinking skills, research skills, technology skills, and skills in visual and performing arts.
Middle school clubs are offered in each of the school system’s middle schools. These clubs might include clubs such as journalism, environmental studies, engineering, creative problem solving, photography, languages, cultural awareness, and leadership, based upon the interests of the students at the school.

HMS SGA
Headland 9th Grade Academy's Student Government Association (SGA) creates the opportunity for students to become effective leaders, thus encouraging and influencing a positive school climate. SGA allows students to participate in and witness the democratic system and creates a line of communication between students, teachers, and administrators.
Students running for SGA positions spend time campaigning for president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, or grade-level representative. They hang posters and talk to their constituents.
Once officers are elected, SGA representatives assist in school assemblies, student fundraising activities, 5th Grade orientation and our yearly canned food drive during the holidays.
Students in the 9th grade are eligible to run for office.
